After he graduated from the Faculty of Economics of Novosibirsk State University in 1977 with a degree in Economics and Mathematics, V.A. Kryukov has been working at the Institute of Industrial Engineering SB RAS.

His monograph “Istitutional structure of the oil and gas sector: problems and directions of transformation” (1998) was a pioneer research work in Russia in studying patterns of changes in the institutional structure of the mineral resource complex in present-day conditions. In total, more than 300 works were published by Kryukov (personally and in collaboration), including 22 monographs.

Expert in various organizations, including: the Economic Council of the Tyumen region, the Expert Council of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, the Expert Council of the State Duma Committee on natural resources, environment and ecology, the Expert Board of the State Commission on the Development of Arctic, the Executive Board of the New Economic Association. He was a member of the expert groups of the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Arctic Board; he headed the group on the development of draft documents on the economic and social development of a number of subjects of the Russian Federation.

At the National Research University “Higher School of Economics” (Moscow), he is the head of the Department of Energy and Raw Materials Markets and the Scientific Director of the master’s program on regulation and management of raw materials and energy industries. He is a member of Dissertation Defense Committees; he heads the State Certification Commission at the Tyumen State University. He worked a visiting professor, researcher and affiliated researcher at a number of universities and institutes in Canada, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy.
