Dmitry E. Sorokin

It is with deep regret and profound sadness that we inform you that Dmitry Evgenievich Sorokin, the editor-in-chief of our journal “Finance: Theory and Practice”, Doctor of Economics, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Economic Theory of the Financial University, passed away at the age of 75 after a long and serious illness.

Dmitry Evgenievich was born on January 1, 1946, in Moscow. He graduated from the Moscow Economic and Statistical Institute.

In 1972 he defended his candidate’s thesis, and in 1991 he defended his doctoral thesis. He successfully combined scientific research with teaching, and in 1993 he was awarded the academic title of Professor.

From 1988 to 2014 he worked at the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences: acting Director, Deputy Director, First Deputy Director for Research (2006–2014). In 2008 he was elected a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Since 2008, Dmitry Evgenievich worked at the Financial University as the Head of the Department of Macroeconomic Regulation (as a second job), Vice-rector for scientific work, Academic Supervisor of the university. Recently, he headed the Department of Economic Theory.

Since 2014, Dmitry Evgenievich held the position of editor-in-chief of the journal “Bulletin of the Financial University” (now “Finance: Theory and Practice”).

Dmitry E. Sorokin was a well-known scientist and organizer of scientific research, who contributed significantly to the development of a strategy for the socio-economic development of our country.

Dmitry Evgenievich’s scientific interests are analysis of options and alternatives for the socio-economic transformation of Russian society, research into the problem of institutional reform of the economic system of Russia, property relations reform, labor relations, institutional reforms of state regulation of the economy.

Dmitry Evgenievich’s public appearances in the media and at scientific conferences aroused particular interest. For many years, Dmitry E. Sorokin worked together with the Free Economic Society of Russia (VEO), being its vice president. Dmitry Evgenievich’s speeches in the VEO discussions were always deep, scientifically reasoned, and aroused great interest.

A man with a great sense of humor who enjoyed life and was always surrounded by friends. Nevertheless, he loved to spend his summer holidays rafting alone on the Siberian rivers.

We express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dmitry Evgenievich Sorokin. The bright memory of him as a person with a big kind heart and a wide soul will stay with us forever.
